I've seen patients with femur/hip fx's, severe ACS, etc. with no pain management, yet there the medication sits...in the compartment/bag right next to the IV start kits. Are we afraid to use MSO4? Fentanyl? Dilaudid? Is it because they're "opiates"? And might that be tied to "opiate addiction"? Let me say that 10mg of MSO4 does not an addict make...nor 100mcg of Fentanyl...etc. We are all very competent clinicians, and have all been educated on the usage of these medications. So let's use them and manage our patients' pain.
